What is nail files?

Nail files are small, handheld grooming tools used to shape and smooth the edges of fingernails and toenails. They are made from a variety of materials, including metal, glass, and different types of abrasive paper or boards.

The two most common types of nail files are emery boards and metal files. Emery boards are typically made from a thin piece of cardboard covered with a layer of abrasive material, usually emery. They are inexpensive and disposable, but can wear out quickly. Metal files are usually made from stainless steel and have a rough texture on one or both sides. They are durable and long-lasting, but can be too harsh for some nails.

Glass nail files are a newer type of file that has become popular in recent years. They are made from tempered glass and have a fine, gentle grit that helps to prevent splitting and chipping of the nails. They can be more expensive than other types of nail files, but are often considered more hygienic because they can be sterilized and reused.

When using a nail file, it's important to file in one direction only, rather than back and forth, to prevent damage and splitting of the nails. It's also important to choose the right grit for your nail type – coarse grits are best for thick nails, while finer grits are better for thin or weak nails.
